Our regular meeting, we welcome all visiting Rotarians and their guests.
This week we are proud to welcome Dr. Van Deusen as our speaker on "Manuscripts in Iceland: the Middle Ages and Beyond".
Dr. Van Deusen is the inaugural Henry Cabot and Linnea
Lodge Professor of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Alberta, where she
teaches a variety of courses on Scandinavian language, literature, and culture.
Her research interests include Old Norse and Early Modern
Icelandic paleography and philology, manuscript culture, hagiography,
disability studies, and gender studies, and has published several books and
numerous articles and book chapters on these topics. She is the President of
the Association for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies in Canada.
Until June 2023, she is on a sabbatical leave and is
living in Reykjavík, as a guest researcher at the Árni Magnússon Institute for
Icelandic Studies.
